Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed: March 2026

1. Our Commitment to Accessibility

EduTrail Australia is committed to ensuring that our platform is accessible to all people, regardless of disability, assistive technology, or browsing context. We believe that every family navigating the Australian education system deserves equal access to the tools and information we provide.

We are actively working to make our website and web application conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, as published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, and to make user interfaces more usable for everyone.

2. Conformance Status

Target Standard: Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA

EduTrail Australia is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partial conformance means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard. We are continuously reviewing and improving our platform to address identified gaps.

Our accessibility efforts are guided by the four core principles of WCAG 2.1 — that web content must be Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust (POUR).

3. Measures Taken to Support Accessibility

EduTrail Australia takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of our platform:

  • Include accessibility as a requirement in our design and development process
  • Provide ongoing training and awareness for our team on digital accessibility best practices
  • Conduct periodic reviews of our platform against WCAG 2.1 Level AA criteria
  • Respond promptly to user-reported accessibility barriers
  • Use semantic HTML to convey structure and meaning to assistive technologies
  • Ensure sufficient colour contrast ratios across all interface elements
  • Provide text alternatives for all non-text content, including images and icons
  • Support keyboard-only navigation throughout the platform
  • Implement focus indicators so keyboard users can track their position on a page
  • Avoid the use of content that flashes more than three times per second

4. Technical Specifications

4.1 Technologies Relied Upon: Accessibility of EduTrail Australia relies on the following technologies working in combination with your browser and any assistive technologies you may use:

  • HTML5
  • CSS3 (including WAI-ARIA attributes)
  • JavaScript (React)
  • SVG (for scalable icons and graphics)

4.2 Supported Browsers: EduTrail Australia is designed to work with the following modern browsers:

  • Google Chrome (latest two major versions)
  • Mozilla Firefox (latest two major versions)
  • Apple Safari (latest two major versions)
  • Microsoft Edge (latest two major versions)

4.3 Assistive Technologies: We aim to support users of the following assistive technologies:

  • Screen readers, including NVDA (Windows), JAWS (Windows), and VoiceOver (macOS and iOS)
  • Screen magnification software
  • Speech recognition software, including Dragon NaturallySpeaking
  • Keyboard-only navigation (no mouse required)
  • High-contrast display modes

5. Known Limitations

Despite our best efforts, there are some areas of EduTrail Australia where known accessibility limitations exist. We are actively working to address these issues:

  • Interactive data visualisations: Some charts and comparison graphics may not fully convey their data to screen reader users. We are working to add more comprehensive text alternatives and ARIA descriptions.
  • PDF documents: Some PDF resources in our library may not be fully tagged for screen reader access. We are progressively remediating these documents.
  • Embedded maps: The school finder map relies on a third-party mapping service and may have limited accessibility. We provide list-based alternatives wherever possible.
  • Video content: Some videos may not have closed captions or audio descriptions. We are working to ensure all video content includes accessible alternatives.

If you encounter a barrier not listed above, please let us know using the contact details in Section 6 below.

6. Assessment Approach

EduTrail Australia assesses the accessibility of our platform through the following approaches:

  • Self-evaluation: Our development team conducts regular accessibility reviews during the design and build process, using browser-based accessibility tools and manual keyboard testing.
  • Automated testing: We use automated accessibility scanning tools as part of our quality assurance process to identify common issues.
  • User feedback: We actively incorporate feedback from users with disabilities into our ongoing improvement efforts.
  • Periodic review: We conduct a full accessibility review of our platform at least annually, or whenever significant new features are introduced.

7. Feedback and Contact Information

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of EduTrail Australia. If you experience any barriers when using our platform, or if you require content in an accessible alternative format, please contact us. We aim to respond to accessibility-related enquiries within 2 business days.
